This website was created in response to a need - many people would like to support local family farms and ranches, and buy fresh produce, meat and other products directly from the people that produce them. However they can be difficult to find, as there is no central resource with listings of local producers. This website provides a listing of family farms and ranches in Foothills County, located just south of Calgary.
Local farms are important! When you buy from a family farm or ranch they are putting their own name and reputation behind their products and you can be sure they are invested in ensuring that it is the best. They also cater to specific needs - if you have concerns around chemicals, antibiotics, animal welfare, etc, you will be able to find someone who meets your needs. Small producers are also economically important - they diversify local economies by creating jobs, purchasing goods and services locally, and contributing to the overall economic fabric of rural communities.

There are many others located in other counties around Calgary, and hopefully they will also create their own websites. We would love to see various networks of farms promoting their products around the province. There are also many farms and ranches in the Foothills that do not sell directly to consumers, and while we love and support them also, this is a resource for consumers who want to buy direct, so they are not included here.
